Overview

ICSA Labs and the Medical Transcription Industry Association (MTIA) have created the MTSC (Medical Transcription Service Consortium) to promote the secure exchange of dictated medical information. In an initiative to help accelerate the adoption of electronic health care records, ICSA Labs and the Medical Transcription Industry Association (MTIA) have formed a consortium to devise common standards and practices for the creation and sharing of digitized transcriptions of physician-dictated patient notes. The new consortium will help drive common standards for electronic sharing of physician-dictated patient notes. This initiative will help spur the adoption of electronic medical records (EMRs).

Created in October of 2009, the consortium objectives include:
•    Be a driver for meaningful use and interoperability
•    Be one of the players for the NHIN
•    Move towards structured narrative / meta-data rich transcriptions
•    Build a secure state of the art digital transcription exchange network
