Defending Against Advanced Threats & Securing the Internet of Things
Speaker:  Jack Walsh, Mobility Program Manager, ICSA Labs

Presentation Description:  The presentation will cover two areas of study at the labs.  First we will discuss advanced threat defense solutions and their efficacy.  Following that we will talk about the fast moving Internet of Things and its lackluster security.

Part 1:  Most everyone accepts that defending their organization’s network from breaches requires a defense-in-depth strategy.  Organizations employ anti-malware, intrusion prevention systems, firewalls, etc.  Still, breaches occur.  This is due in part to the fact that while we have gotten good at protecting our organizations from well-known threats, there’s been no real answer for new and emerging threats.  Enter advanced threat defense (ATD) solutions.  ICSA Labs discusses how it tests these new threat detection/protection solutions while demonstrating to attendees how they can benefit.

Part 2:  According to an increasing number of commentators, security for the Internet of Things (IoT) has been likened to that of the wild, wild west.  That is to say, it ain’t good!  Where does the IoT start and where does it end?  What can be done about securing it, if anything?  Having been testing computer and network security products for 25 years, ICSA Labs has some ideas.  We’ll share those ideas with the attendees as well as our experiences to date.
